Woman channels #ShePersisted spirit in rant against Mitch McConnell

“If you can answer any of that, I’ll sit down and shut up like Elizabeth Warren."

Sorry Mitch McConnell, but that's a hell of a rant.

The Senate majority leader got a scolding over jobs and health care from a pretty angry constituent at a luncheon in Kentucky.

“The last I heard, these coal jobs are not coming back and now these people don’t have the insurance they need because they’re poor," the woman said.

"And they work those coal mines, and they’re sick, the veterans are sick, the veterans are broken down, they’re not getting what they need.”

“If you can answer any of that, I’ll sit down and shut up like Elizabeth Warren,” she concluded.

The reference is to when McConnell halted Warren's speech during the Senate debate over President Donald Trump's nominee for attorney general, Sen. Jeff Sessions. Warren was reading a 1986 letter by Coretta Scott King that criticised Sessions.

She later appeared on Facebook Live outside the Senate to finish her remarks.

Later, McConnell said in his own defense, “Sen. Warren was giving a lengthy speech. She had appeared to violate the rule. She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.”

Since then, the phrase "Nevertheless, she persisted," as well as the hashtag "#shepersisted", became a rallying cry for Warren supporters.
