Penned by J.K. Rowling herself, the play is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage.
The Internet lost its collective mind in December when casting news for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was announced.
Dumezweni has taken home many honors for her acting, including the 2006 Olivier Award for "best performer in a supporting role" for her portrayal of Ruth Younger in a production of Raisin in the Sun.
She also had a small role in the 2012 film version of Les Miserables and a voice credit in Minions.
She stars alongside Paul Thornley, who plays Ron, and Jamie Parker, who plays Harry.
Still, fans of the movie franchise were divided. Many on social media either criticized or commended Rowling for casting a black actress in the role of Hermione. Rowling -- of course -- was dismissive of haters, deeming them racist.
Watson was a fan from the get-go.
