*SPOILER ALERT: This post contains details about the most recent episodes of Empire.*

Prepare for even more Lucious Lyon upon the return of Empire

Executive producer Ilene Chaiken says audiences will learn even more about the cruel mogul's backstory when the second half of Season Two airs March 30.

"Lucious’ life story is a very big part of the second half of Season Two," she says in a press conference call. "A lot will be revealed. It will have repercussions, huge consequences for everyone in the family."

The midseason finale in December saw Lucious' world come crumbling down around him as he lost control of his company -- all thanks to a swing vote from his own son, Hakeem.

"He goes through such extraordinary things in such a deep and intense way."

"He goes through such extraordinary things in such a deep and intense way and Terrence Howard’s performance in those episodes is just remarkable," she says. "I’m really, really excited for people to watch and see where we go with this character and where Terrence takes him."

This latter portion of the season will also see "far fewer" celebrity guest stars, Chaiken adds, a feature Empire has become known for. The first half of this season saw Alicia Keyz, Rosie O'Donnell and Vivica Fox in one episode alone.

However, the show might still drop in familiar names by mentioning the current presidential election. A Donald Trump-type character seems like catnip for Empire, but Chaiken won't say one way or the other if something like that would happen (though the show has made political jokes before about Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama).

"I would say that it's safe to anticipate that you’ll always hear political discussions on Empire, because it’s in the fabric of this world and in the lives and minds of the characters we’re talking about," she says.

We'll find out for sure when the series returns next week.
