Australians know all too well the dance pop tracks of musical duo Empire of the Sun, as their music was the soundtrack for so many parties and long days in the sun in the late-2000s.

Somehow, the duo's 2008 hit "Walking On A Dream" has made an incredible resurgence in 2016 -- except it is all the way over in America. The catchy tune featured in a recent Honda Civic ad in the country and suddenly it's like 2008 all over again.

America, usually first with the new music, is following Australia's lead this time. Empire of the Sun is now gaining mainstream traction in the country, almost one decade after it saturated Australian airwaves.

Tweets and comments on the ad's YouTube video from December and January show Americans' growing attachment to the song, with many saying they just need to hear it one more time. Oh yes, we remember those days.

It shows an ad really can relaunch a slowed music career into an unsuspecting market.

Following the ad's debut, the song also made a surprise re-entrance to the U.S. Billboard Top 100 back in late January where it debuted at No. 82, according to SPIN. "I’ve been getting phone calls, mums at my kids' schools [talking about it]," Luke Steele, one-half of the duo, told the magazine at the time.

To cement Empire of the Sun's official U.S. domination, the duo then made an appearance on The Ellen Show on Monday -- complete with their trademark trippy visuals. In America, Ellen means you have made it, right? It is now officially 2008.

Yet, Aussies have been through all of this before. Many Australian locals have taken to the only place they know to express their deep confusion at the revival of 2008. Some want it to stay where it belongs.

This whole thing is actually perfect timing, considering the group will release its third album this year, which is currently being finished off, according to band member Nick Littlemore's Twitter account.

Australia is excited to find out what you discover next America. Perhaps Flight Facilities? Powderfinger? The great southern land is your oyster. Enjoy.
