The 2016 UEFA Euro soccer tournament has given the world plenty of memorable moments, but nothing will compare to Iceland's victory over England on Monday in the Round of 16.

For Iceland, it was a triumph. England ... not so much. Commentators used words like "embarrassing," "desolation," and "disaster" to describe the loss.

The 2-1 win for Iceland was a David-beats-Goliath moment, the small, 34th-ranked island country beating one of the giants of the sport -- just days after England's "Brexit" vote. It was so crushing, England's coach stepped down after the match.

As the clock ran out and Iceland celebrated, the Internet joined in, sharing their joy over the underdog's victory and reveling in schadenfreude over England's loss. People made lots of Brexit jokes and, yes, of course there were Crying Jordans.

The Reykjavik Grapevine, the alt-weekly of Iceland's capital city, cherished the victory as it has every one of Iceland's matches this tournament.

But the rest of the world got in on the fun, too.

There were also Brexit jokes, including one from John Oliver, who has had a lot to say on the matter

And, of course, there were jokes involving the Queen of Iceland (well, metaphorically speaking), Bjork.

But the peak was a convergence of all of these things, an Iceland/Bjork/Brexit trifecta.

Next up for Iceland? A quarterfinal match-up with host country France on Sunday.
