Facebook just hit 2 billion monthly active human content-sharing servitude machines (or: "users")
So, the world's only got 7 billion people in it, and only 3.2 billion are online. On Tuesday, Facebook announced that they reached 2 billion monthly active users. So, yeah: Nearly two-thirds of the people on the Internet are on Facebook. Insert the You know what's really cool? joke here.
That scale's something the tech journalism world, Wall Street investors, and advertisers have whispered about since Facebook has, quarter by quarter, climbed upward, towards that number. Facebook last reported in May 1.94 billion monthly active users, timed with its quarterly earnings report.
To go along with the user milestone announcement, Facebook released several new features around the theme "Good Adds Up."
Users can see a new personalized video, which may appear in their News Feed or visible at www.facebook.com/goodaddsup.
That Facebook Page will feature facts about how people have been contributing to Facebook. Not unlike the Harry Potter Easter Egg on News Feed, whenever a user reacts to someone's post with love, wishes someone happy birthday, or creates a Facebook Group, the user will see a message in their News Feed that thanks them.
Facebook also revealed more than 175 million people share “love” and more than 800 million people “like” something on Facebook every day. More than 1 billion people use Facebook Groups every month.
