Mark Zuckerberg to Tinder users: GTFO

Now that he's mastered screwing with democracy, Mark Zuckerberg is coming for your love life.

Or so it would seem to the hordes of Tinder users who took to Twitter today to complain that they were locked out of their accounts — squarely placing the blame on Facebook in the process.

To understand how Facebook might have broken Tinder, it's important to realize that one of the main ways to access the dating app is via a Facebook account (you can also use your phone number). So, when changes are made to how third-party apps interact with Facebook — as Zuckerberg recently announced was about to happen — it's possible that something might go wrong with that integration.

And something did.

A Facebook spokesperson confirmed via email that the social media company is indeed involved with the mess up. "This was part of the changes that we announced today, and we are working with Tinder to address this issue."

Madison Malone Kircher, an Associate Editor at NYMag, tweeted out a series of screengrabs documenting the collective freak out.

"Facebook Permissions," read the apparent error message. "Tinder requires you provide additional Facebook permissions in order to use a Tinder account. This information is used to create fuller profiles, verify authenticity and provide support."

Following the prompts didn't resolve the issue, and users were quick to blame Facebook.

We reached out to Tinder in an effort to further get to the bottom of what may turn out to be a sexless night for millions, and will update this post when and if we hear back.

In the meantime, may we suggest a visit to your neighborhood bar. Just don't try swiping anyone while there.

UPDATE: April 5, 2018, 9:08 a.m. PDT According to a company spokesperson, Tinder was able to restore service Wednesday evening.

"A technical issue prevented some users from accessing Tinder earlier today," read the statement. "We found a resolution and quickly resumed service. We ask our users to ensure that they have updated the app and are running the most recent version."
