This depressing ad for Facebook's Portal TV somehow stars Kim Kardashian West and Jennifer Lopez

You, too, can form an intimate human connection with another celebrity via Facebook's Portal TV.

Because nothing says genuine human connection like two celebrities discussing "top secret" party ideas in a Facebook ad.

It's just a few days before Black Friday, the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season, and for Facebook that means sponsored content to push its latest hardware product on our nation's grandparents. Specifically, that would be the poorly selling Portal TV — a videoconferencing device seemingly purpose-built to be shoved in a drawer and forgotten about.

And what do you know? Facebook somehow convinced Kim Kardashian West and Jennifer Lopez to star in the damn thing — wearing brightly colored facial masks, no less.

"Kim, I love that Portal lets us have time together," says Lopez at the top of the ad.

"I know, right," replies Kardashian West. "I have so many amazing ideas for the holiday party."

"Ooh, top secret?" asks Lopez in response.

Isn't this ... relatable? After all, when you're looking to share "top secret" ideas, you definitely want to turn to Facebook's suite of notoriously secure services.

But, perhaps, if two genuine friends like Kim Kardashian West and Jennifer Lopez can break through the suffocating crust of daily life to form a true friendship using Facebook's Portal TV, then so can you.

Look, we get it: The holidays can be a depressing time. It's the season most associated with the creeping realization that, no matter your physical proximity to the friends and family in your life, there will forever remain an unbridgeable emotional chasm separating you from the world.

Sadly, no matter the celebrities endorsing it, Facebook's Portal TV isn't going to change that fact.
