There are traditional ways of proposing and then there’s this.

It was Christmas Eve in Fivemiletown, County Tyrone when Anna Martin’s boyfriend Ashley Farrell led her to the cow shed to receive her present. She had already been told she was getting a cow for Christmas. It was only after she spotted the calf that Anna began to get suspicious.

"As we were walking across the yard I saw a cow and calf in the shed and questioned if that was my calf (because I knew it should be bigger)... I had just got the words out and the cow turned around so I could see the writing."

To her shock, the calf had the words “MARRY ME?” written on its side in spray paint. When she turned around, Farrell was already on bended knee with a ring in hand. He asked her to marry him and she said yes.

She told Mashable that she was surprised by the romantic proposal.

"Ashley is a typical farmer and he would tell you himself he's not a romantic, so it was a very pleasant surprise that he had been so creative!"

Since the story of her proposal went viral, Martin said the attention has been surreal.

"It's very strange. I mean we're just normal common folk [but] with everything that's going on in the country with our government, it's nice to be a part of something that makes people smile and laugh." said Anna, referring to the recent political turmoil in Northern Ireland.

"It's all a bit of a craic," she said.

We give Farrell credit for coming up with one of the more unique proposals out there. There are many ways to show people that you love them. In the case of this happily engaged couple, nothing says love like a spray-painted cow.
