It might be time to take Finn Jones off his own show's press tour. The actor and star of Netflix's upcoming Marvel's Iron Fist can't wrap his mind around fans rejecting a white billionaire protagonist -- except that now there's Donald Trump.

"We filmed the show way before Trump’s election," Jones told Radio Times. "And I think it’s very interesting to see how that perception, now that Trump’s in power, how it makes it very difficult to root for someone coming from white privilege, when that archetype is public enemy number one."

Nice try, Finny, but audiences have longed for more than altruistic white heroes for quite some time, and as tempting as it is to blame Trump for Iron Fist appropriating Asian culture for the four millionth time or defaulting to yet another white actor, something tells us he's actually not guilty.

"I think the world has changed a lot since we were filming that television show," Jones said in his Radio Times interview. "I’m playing a white American billionaire superhero, at a time when the white American billionaire archetype is public enemy number one, especially in the US."

It has less to do with public enemies than with Hollywood's history of whitewashing and lack of roles for women. Jones was aware of the missed opportunity to cast an Asian, but he believes in the show, even if critics don't.

"I’ve been working eight years and I’ve experienced it firsthand, the disparity when it comes to Asian representation — even more than that, Asian misrepresentation," Jones' costar Jessica Henwick told The Daily Beast. “But I also have seen what Finn’s done in this role and I honestly, honestly think that he smashes it out the park."

Jones has insisted that viewers stick with the show and watch its entirety, adding that "these shows are made for the fans, not for the critics," as if fans won't be critical.

Yikes. What would the rest of the Defenders have to say about this?
