It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Tyler Hoechlin as Superman in 'Supergirl'

The CW (Supergirl's new home) just released the first photo of Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) with her cousin, Superman (Tyler Hoechlin).

Superman is joining the show when the program returns for its second season Oct. 10.

At Comic-Con over the weekend, Hoechlin shared his excitement at being cast, but noted he hadn't yet tried on the iconic suit, so this photo is a brand-new development.

"[It's] incredibly surreal," Hoechlin noted at a Comic-Con panel for the show. "I know this character means so much to so many people. There's a responsibly to the character. I take it on with great pride. I'm excited to see what we do with that character in the context of this great world [the Supergirl team] has created.
