Joining the fabulous ranks of Taylor Swift, Ellen DeGeneres, Zendaya, Katy Perry and more, 17-year-old makeup artist and influencer James Charles has been named the latest CoverGirl.

Charles, who made headlines last month for his seriously flawless senior portrait, is the first ever male CoverGirl – rather, CoverBoy – that the makeup brand has appointed.

"[Becoming the first male CoverGirl feels] incredible. I haven't been able to stop smiling since I found out the news and I am so excited to see what there is to come in the future!" Charles told Mashable.

The social media influencer announced his partnership via Instagram and Twitter, of course.

CoverGirl explained in their press release why they're proud to have Charles on board.

All of our CoverGirls are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe, and redefining what it means to be beautiful. James Charles is no exception. One year ago, he boldly chose to launch his Instagram to the world, using transformative, dynamic makeup looks to showcase the many facets of his personality, serving as an inspiration to women, men, guys and girls who might have been afraid to do the same.

Charles believes his new title is a progressive move for the beauty industry.

"I think it’s truly a step forward in removing gender stereotypes and roles in the beauty world," Charles told Mashable.

"Beauty is for everyone, and I think that CoverGirl, being such a timeless and iconic brand, recognizing that is so important. It truly shows that we are becoming a more accepting industry."

The young makeup artist also got to do a photoshoot with Katy Perry to cement his place in the CoverGirl family.

Charles said working with Perry was, "So nerve wracking. I’m a huge fan of her so I was shaking but she was so kind and made me feel really comfortable which was awesome."

Perry even shared well wishes for the CoverBoy on Instagram.

Charles' partnership with CoverGirl will involve sharing beauty tips and tricks (as he already does on his Instagram) and promoting CoverGirl's new So Lashy! mascara, which is designed to work on any and all lash types.

"I want to keep doing looks and tutorials, and I’d love to eventually start my own makeup line," Charles said. "But that’s a ways away."

Fellow CoverGirl Perry has her own makeup line with the brand – so we won't be surprised if we see a James Charles CoverGirl makeup collection out soon.
