I tried contouring for the first time and it wasn't as hard as it looked

Ready for my close-up.

For a beauty junkie, I shamefully have never given makeup contouring a shot for fear of looking like a walking plastic doll due to my less-than-deft blending skills.

I've watched plenty of tutorials on YouTube and I also studied "clown contouring" when it was a thing last year, but it always seemed to require more effort that I was willing to put in.

But celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D's new contouring makeup range landed on my desk and I figured I had to jump on it to see how a noob would do.

Von D's eponymous cosmetics line will launch in Singapore in July at Sephora, and I've heard from the great beauty grapevine that her contour palettes and lipsticks are expected to sell like hotcakes.

The face contour palette comes with three light and three dark powder shades, and will suit several skin tones. I like the options since I'm a little tanner than usual since returning home from a beach vacation.

The contouring brush is sold separately, which isn't necessary if you already own a brush.

While a total noob, it took me a little over four minutes to cheat me some killer cheekbones, a slimmer jawline and narrower nose bridge.

The accompanying instructions on how to use the palette and brush were extremely easy to follow, which I was grateful for. I applied the contouring makeup after my foundation and brows were done.

However I feel the contoured look needs to be completed with a fully made-up face, otherwise you end up looking airbrushed and extremely tanned.

I like the dimensions contouring adds to my face, and to finish I slicked on Von D's matte lipstick in L.U.V. and liquid tattoo liner.

Post-contouring, I feel ready for my close-up (and selfies). I think contouring might be my new favourite makeup regime.
