These bleak WFH playsets for toddlers are unfortunately very real
The year 2020 just got a whole lot darker thanks to Fisher-Price.
The popular infant, toddler, and children's toy company released a new line of products inspired by the many adults working from home in quarantine. And though the mini home office, workout, and cooking playsets are undeniably cute, they're also bleak as hell.
On Wednesday, Fisher-Price's parent company, Mattel, announced the WFH-inspired lineup of "'mini-me' and role-play items" that aim to turn essential adult activities, such as going to work, exercising, and cooking meals, into toys so they can partake in the fun work, too.
The collection features a My Home Office Set, a Baby Biceps™ Gift Set, and a Cutest Chef™ Gift Set, and there's apparently more to come.
"Our designers created these toys based on some of the most popular themes in social media, including #food and #fitness," Chuck Scothon, Senior Vice President of Fisher-Price (and Mattel's Global Head of Infant and Preschool) noted in the blog post.
If you want a business baby in the house, we recommend the My Home Office Set (featured above), which is available for $24.99. It includes a laptop with four "apps," along with a smartphone, a headset for important baby calls, and even a cup of coffee. Every baby's dream!
If you really want a punch in the gut, however, we highly suggest buying your kid a Tiny Tourist™ Gift Set for $11.53. This way you can pretend you're on vacation and not stuck in your living room. Hahah!
There's no denying that these WFH-inspired toys are adorable, but under different circumstances they might have been more appealing. Seeing the toys released in the middle of a global pandemic, when so many people still have no idea how long they'll be working from home, frequently cooking, or doing home workouts, is a little depressing. The toys are cute, but the thought of kids playing with tiny versions of our sad WFH setups is most certainly not.
If you're looking for more adult-inspired toys for your children, however, Fisher-Price also sells a pizza teether, a coffee cup teether, a Taco Tuesday™ set, a Rice ‘n Roll Sushi set, a charcuterie set, and a home garden set.
We have to admit, the charcuterie set looks dope. And quarantine seems like the perfect time to teach your baby a crucial life skill like how to nicely arrange salami, cheese, crackers, and grapes on a cutting board.
