The home improvement show that had us all lusting to move to Waco, Texas and cheering for unearthed shiplap is coming to an end.

HGTV's immensely popular Fixer Upper will end after its fifth season, the designer-contractor couple behind the show announced Tuesday.

Fixer Upper featured homebuyers who purchased scary dumps -- some way worse than others, remember when their carpenter friend Clint bought "the beast" for $10,000 (!) -- and paid Chip and Joanna to turn the dated junk heaps into open-plan beauties filled with oversized clocks, subway tile, hardwood floors, and sliding barn doors. Oh, how I'll miss those sliding doors.

Chip and Joanna Gaines have become celebrities in their own right since the show began airing in May 2013, with the couple opening their own marketplace called the Silos (that attracts tens of thousands of visitors weekly) and launching a magazine, Target lifestyle brand, bed and breakfast, cookbook, bakery, and more.

When Joanna tweets about her latest redesign, her animals on the farm, or her beloved plants, expect thousands of likes and a long scroll of giddy comments. Chip, known for running through walls on "demo day" and for sticking a cockroach in his mouth while showing a house, even has a bestselling book.

"For us, in this, we always want to be mindful of what's the season for us, and I think for awhile now we felt like Season 5 was gonna be our final for this chapter. We started out as business owners. Our beautiful business here in Waco needs our attention, we need to pour into that," Joanna said in a video posted to the couple's blog. She added that the duo wants to spend time with their four kids.

But their announcement left fans crying on their Carrera countertops.

While Fixer Upper is one of the most popular HGTV shows (the network has had its own renaissance lately), the show wasn't immune from off-camera controversy. Chip and Joanna came under fire for attending a church whose pastor preaches against same-sex marriage, and the couple was criticized for gentrifying Waco neighborhoods. Some prior clients even complained about being sold a bill of goods. This program and other HGTV shows with the wife as designer, husband as contractor, have also been criticized for propagating gender stereotypes.

But still, there's no denying that Fixer Upper was a wholesome show that captivated home improvement warriors (and the wishful thinkers). Joanna brought white shiplap, wooden boards commonly used for building exteriors, inside her homes and into our hearts. And even after Season 5 ends (it airs in November), their fans will still worship at the subway tile altar.

"At the end of the day, you can find us here in Waco, Texas," Chip said in the video. "Of course you can always come visit us at the Silos. You never know, you might see us at a local little league game in town with the kids."
