MTV debuted its 'Jersey Shore' spinoff, and fans were like "Gym, Tan, HELL NO"

Try as hard as MTV might, there is only one Jersey Shore.

The infamous reality show, which ran from 2009 to 2012, followed a group of strangers who live together in a house in New Jersey's Seaside Heights. Over the years, Jersey Shore captured the hearts of boardwalk lovers, delivered heavy doses of drama, and turned "GTL" (gym, tan, laundry) into a life motto.

It was so popular, in fact, that MTV recently tried to replicate the phenomenon by creating Floribama Shore — a followup series starring eight young adults spending the summer together in Florida's Panama City Beach.

The show premiered on Monday night, and needless to say, Jersey Shore stans of the world were not impressed.

Despite their frustration, fans endured the pilot episode for one very important reason: Prior to Monday's Floribama Shore premiere, MTV announced it would be revealing "a big Jersey Shore announcement" during the first episode of the wannabe series.

Ugh, verrrrry clever — now the people HAD to watch.

Viewers turned into the new show hoping to learn more about the MTV's big announcement, which was that the original Jersey Shore would be returning (a fact that we've known since July, by the way), but they loathed they new show they had to watch to get the news.

There's no way of knowing how many people would have actually sat down to watch the premiere of the new show if MTV hadn't teased news about Jersey Shore (but judging from the reactions I'd say not many).

For anyone appalled by Floribama Shore, have no fear — Jersey Shore Family Vacation is set to air in 2018, so the world of reality tv will soon be reset on its axis soon. The reunion series will reportedly feature the entire original cast, minus Sammi Giancola, A.K.A. Sammy Sweetheart.

But until then, MTV, in the paraphrased words of Mean Girls' Regina George: Stop trying to make a Jersey Shore spinoff happen. It's not going to happen.
