These fish must be well-trained.

The dazzling sight of a school of baby mullet fish flying out of water has been captured by an eagle-eyed amateur photographer in Perth, Western Australia, alongside the banks of the Swan River on Sunday.

"I saw the mullet being chased a week before so I planned a trip around getting the right light and have the wind come from the right direction," Gary Meredith, the photographer, told Mashable Australia via email. He posted the pictures on his Facebook page, Outdoorsnap, on Tuesday.

The baby mullet are flying out of the water because they are being chased by predators, possibly by larger tailor fish or Eastern Osprey birds who live on the fish, Meredith said. He took around "100 images," but only had four or five that he was happy with.

It's also been thought that mullet fish jump out of water to help with their breathing, if there is a lack of oxygen in the water, according to the Australian Museum.

Meredith calls himself a "serious amateur" when it comes to his photography, building a portfolio of images that he hopes to sell in future.

We imagine if he keeps shooting photos like these, they'll be jumping off the shelves.
