Ford fans might want to look away for this.

Chevrolet released a strength comparison test Wednesday morning of its Silverado pickup versus its chief competitor, the Ford F-150. Specifically, the tests scrutinized the durability of the trucks' beds.

While the Chevy's bed is constructed from roll-formed, high-strength-steel, the F-150's bed is made from stamped aluminum. Though aluminum is lightweight, which aides in the Ford's fuel efficiency, it's also less resilient than steel.

In spite of this, Ford has claimed its military-grade aluminum bed met or exceeded durability testing. Chevy begged to differ.

In both laboratory testing and 26 real-world and demonstrations, Chevy quite literally punched holes in Ford's resiliency claims.

With little more than a 28-pound toolbox, Chevy put 13 holes in a 2016 F-150's bed. In the same tests, the 2016 Silverado suffered two punctures.

Stepping the tests up a notch, Chevy dropped 55 landscaping blocks from a height of five feet into the trucks. Over the 12 tests, the Ford's bed was punctured 52 times. During the same tests, the Silverado suffered zero punctures.

At this point, I am sure there are Ford employees having aneurisms somewhere in Dearborn, Michigan.

Certainly, Chevy picked tests that it knew would highlight its strengths and Ford's weaknesses. Accordingly, this demo needs to be viewed with a grain of salt.

That said, it's a pretty striking test. Twenty-eight pounds isn't an exceptionally heavy item, so we'd expect a truck bed to be able to handle that kind of drubbing.
