In the wake of two harrowing earthquakes in Mexico, the story of local rescuer -- a Labrador retriever named Frida -- serves as a small comfort.

A canine rescuer belonging to the Mexican navy (SEMAR), Frida recently made headlines for her recent contributions to search and rescue missions following natural disasters in her country.

Following the deadly earthquake that struck Oaxaca earlier this month – the first of two to hit the country in recent weeks – the office of the president of Mexico recognized Frida's role in rescues following recent natural disasters. Per the Los Angeles Times, she's found 52 people over the course of her career, 12 of whom were alive.

According to a clip about Frida posted to SEMAR's Twitter account, she and other members of their canine rescue team will prove invaluable in the ongoing rescue mission in Mexico City, where a devastating earthquake has left at least 216 people dead.

For those looking to aid in earthquake relief, here's how you can help.

Correction, September 22, 2017: This story has been corrected to reflect that though Frida has found 52 people throughout her career, only 12 were alive when she discovered them. We have removed a line regarding her role in the recent earthquake in Oaxaca.
