It's one of the most prolific accidental cameos in TV history: the rogue coffee cup from Game of Thrones.

HBO may have edited out the mistake, but thanks to two clever mods, the diabolical caffeine receptacle's memory lives on in Skyrim.

Reported by Kotaku, a mod built for Bethesda's beloved Elder Scrolls game allows you to replace tankards with the dastardly coffee cup.

As the publisher points out, the request was made in jest on Friday by player DarkMaster06 who asked the Skyrim mods subreddit for a cheeky addition to the great palace in the game's city of Whiterun.

"Based on the Game of Thrones series, we should add a Starbucks cup to Dragonsreach," they said.

Two modders immediately jumped on it, and rolled out their own answers to the diabolical request.

One, created by a user named johnrose81, is called Skyland Coffee, and replaces all tankards, not just in Dragonsreach but beyond, with coffee cups that resemble those from Starbucks.

"You'll see it too much. Trust me. I made it and even I got sick of it. It replaces ALL the tankards with this cup," wrote johnrose81 on Reddit.

"It is funny to walk into a bar, and everyone is drinking coffee. I mean, you really notice how alcoholic everyone is when they’re drinking coffee, and you’re like 'Man, they drink a lot of coffee.'"

Another neat mod was created by user Sphered, called Mysterious Coffee Cup, which sees a coffee cup added to the Dragonsreach throne room and that of the city of Solitude too.

So, there you go. Even though the blame game for "cupgate" is over, and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has provided her own seemingly exonerating evidence to clear her name of all wrongdoing, the cup will not be buried.

Whiterun remembers. The Nords remember.
