Warning: Contains spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 3.

If we don't actually see a character die in Game of Thrones, there's a fairly decent chance they'll come back, right?

Well, no. Not always.

After Sunday night's episode saw Ellaria Sand and her daughter locked away in Cersei's dungeon with the latter about to embark on a slow, miserable death, some people were speculating that Cersei's decision to leave the former alive may have been a bad one.

Apparently not, though. Indira Varma, who plays Ellaria in the show, has admitted as much; she told EW that despite the fact her character's still alive in Episode 3, we're not going to be seeing the sand snake again.

"It’s all coming to a head and you have to get rid of less important characters that the audience hasn’t had the chance to invest in as much," said Varma.

"So I was expecting it. I wasn’t heartbroken. And I was like, 'As long as I die on screen…' and they [David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] were like 'Yeah!'

"But of course I don’t die on screen. I stay alive, I’m just not going to reappear. I think it’s really clever."

So long, Ellaria.
