Warning: Contains spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 7.

If there's one thing that's stressed time and time again in the Game of Thrones world, it's that history isn't linear. It's circular.

The consequences of different character's actions catch up with them, old lines of dialogue echo through time, and basically anytime anyone does anything -- bad or good -- you know it's going to catch up with them eventually. Just ask Joffrey.

Anyway, one relevant example of this at the moment is Cersei -- particularly this conversation she had with Robert Baratheon back in Season 1:

That conversation was highlighted on the r/gameofthrones subreddit recently by Redditor pnr32 -- so far it's had nearly 3,000 upvotes and 500 comments.

The real key is Robert's last sentence about people uniting behind "one leader with one purpose".

At this stage in the game, Cersei is simply clinging onto power; she's cruel, she's vicious, and Westeros is more divided than ever under her rule.

Daenerys, on the other hand, does have a purpose. She also has a claim, a ton of support, and three very cool-looking dragons.

Robert didn't know it at the time, but he was basically giving his wife an exact breakdown of how she'll one day be brought to ruin.
