Blame winter: Production for Season 7 of 'Game of Thrones' may start late
LOS ANGELES -- Apparently, winter isn't coming soon enough.
Game of Thrones writers and producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed production for Season 7 of the HBO show may be delayed because -- what else? -- not enough gloomy weather.
"We don't have an air date yet," the showrunners said in a UFC podcast uploaded on Tuesday. "We're starting a bit later because at the end of this season, 'Winter is here' — and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes any more. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, gray weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot."

Last season, the cast and crew shot in various locations across Europe, including in Northern Ireland, Croatia, and Spain.
The fantasy show, which is Benioff and Weiss' adaptation of author George R.R. Martin's series, is one of HBO's most popular series. The Season 6 finale hit an all-time high in live plus same-day viewership, drawing 8.9 million viewers, according to Nielsen ratings.
HBO did not immediately respond to Mashable's request for comment.
The show is expected to return to the network in 2017. But superfans have already developed their theories of what will happen next.
