'CS:GO' documentary trailer goes behind-the-scenes with Team Liquid
Playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive professionally is not an easy job, and soon you'll be able to get a behind-the-scenes look at how one of the biggest names in the game prepares for the biggest competitions in the world.
A 30-minute television documentary called Gamer Gods: Team Liquid follows Team Liquid as they prepare for and compete in one of the biggest CS:GO tournaments of 2016: ESL One New York. The special debuts Nov. 14 at 10 p.m. ET on Fuse, and you can check out a preview of it here:
Team Liquid is one of the top CS:GO teams in North America and fields some impressive players: Hiko, Nitr0, Elige, Pimp and Jdm64. The trailer gives a glimpse at some of the struggles and drama that teams like Liquid go through on a regular basis.
“Giving viewers the opportunity to see the stress the players place on themselves to be successful and the sheer amount of effort that goes into competing at this level, is extremely compelling,” Team Liquid Co-CEO Steve Arhancet said in a statement.
At ESL One New York in Brooklyn, the team placed third/fourth after losing to eventual champions Na'Vi in the semifinals, taking home $25,000 of the $250,000 prize pool. Despite not being one of the favored teams to win ESL One New York, the crowd was rooting for them during every match, drowning out any chants for their opponents.
In late September, just before the tournament in Brooklyn, Team Liquid was acquired by Pete Guber and Ted Leonsis, who between them own the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals and more. Over two-dozen other businesspeople and companies have invested in the team, including NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.
The Team Liquid franchise has teams and players in League of Legends, Dota 2, Overwatch, Street Fighter, Super Smash Bros., Hearthstone, StarCraft and Halo. The organization has been around for 15 years, starting as a website for the esports community.
