You know when you post something on Snapchat or Instagram hoping to get the attention of your crush? Now we have the perfect name for that.
Reddit user Cupcake Warrior just blew our collective mind with this post in the subreddit r/ShowerThoughts:
"Posting a Snapchat to your story and then waiting for that one specific person to watch it, is the modern day equivalent of Gatsby throwing elaborate parties seeking Daisy's attention."
Like the best shower thoughts, once you've heard it, you go yessssss and realize it's what you've known all along but just haven't been able to put into the right words.
Now you do! Next time you send out a carefully curated signal across the social channel, hoping to catch the eye of your Daisy, you're Gatsby-ing.
It feels kind of fancy, doesn't it? And thank goodness we're moving into the literary realm for our new dating slang. The spookiness of all this ghosting and haunting was getting a little old.
Though it's worth bearing in mind that it didn't work out all that well in the end for Gatsby himself. So don't sit there staring at the green light for too long...
