It's Olympics season in Rio -- a time for gold medals, burning torches and wedding proposals.

On Monday, gay British Olympian Tom Bosworth decided to propose to his boyfriend Harry Dineley. Bosworth, a race walker, then posted a photo of his proposal on Twitter with the simple caption: "He said YES!"

Bosworth's proposal quickly went viral, as did the picture of the wedding ring he subsequently posted.

The Olympian recently finished in 6th place in the 20-kilometer walking race. It's a powerful finish for an athlete who was ranked 37th in the world in the lead up to the games.

In 2015, Bosworth came out to the public, describing himself to the BBC as "really lucky."

"It’s a scary thing. I’m really lucky. I’ve got a loving partner, a great family behind me, a great setup in Leeds, and everyone is really supportive and really welcoming, but that’s not the same for everybody else in this world today, even in 2015. ... It’s difficult for people to speak with their friends and family about a lot of different issues, and in sport I don’t think being gay is still a normal thing.”

Bosworth joins two other Olympians who made headlines by making highly public marriage proposals during the games.

On Sunday, silver medal winner and Chinese diver He Zi received her very own marriage proposal from her boyfriend and fellow diver, Qin Ka. Ka made his proposal on live TV, prompting He Zi to become visibly tearful and emotional on air. The internet teared up. Her competitors cheered her on. And thankfully, she said yes.

Last Tuesday, Marjorie Enya, a manager at Deodoro Stadium, proposed to 25-year-old Olympian and a women's rugby player for Brazil, Isadora Cerullo.

“I wanted to show people that love wins," Enya told the BBC.

There are currently 49 out LGBTQ athletes at the Rio Games.
