The first major Gears of War 4 tournament -- held in Columbus, Ohio, less than two months after the game came out -- carried a heavy purse, with 108 teams competing for a total of $300,000.

Ilinois-based Team OpTic Gaming took home $120,000 of the pool for first place prize at MLG Columbus Gears Open.

The event kicked off the first of six in a series of Gears of War 4 tournaments called Gears Pro Circuit. A total of $1,000,000 will be up for grabs over a span of six months, ending summer of 2017.

In the Gears Open grand finals, Team OpTic Gaming and EnVyUS went head-to-head in a first-to-seven match. In the beginning it was looking like a sweep for Optic, who took four games in the finals without fail.

A glimmer of hope sparked in match five, though short lived -- as EnVy came out on top to start a rally. Ultimately EnVy peaked at 4 wins, but OpTic ended the tournament at round 11, nearly doubling the other team's score, 7-4.

The $120,000 first prize went to OpTic, followed by Team EnVyUs in second ($60,000), BOT Empire in third ($40,000) and fourth eUnited ($24,000).
