Get_Right on the future of Ninjas in Pyjamas and its four core players

Ninjas and Pyjamas is coming hot off an unexpected and historic victory, but how does a team of four core Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players make up for the fact that they're fifth player is sitting out with a wrist injury indefinitely?

One of NiP's core of four, Christopher "Get_Right" Alesund, told Mashable the team relies on the strength of its central players. And some luck.

"We are good enough players to compete against the best and we've been proving that for many years -- the four of us have been together for such a long time -- so whoever is playing with us, it's not going to be a big problem for us," he said. "But I think it was a lot of luck in general that helped us win [StarSeries]."

Get_Right, Xizt, F0rest and Friberg have played on the team since the game released in 2012. Ninjas in Pyjamas' newest player Pyth has been out with an injured hand since mid-August, replaced by Disco Doplan for a short time and recently former teammate Maikelele. Despite the big win at StarSeries, Get_Right said the team isn't getting cocky.

"I can't really say anything like, 'Hey, we're gonna go here and we're gonna win the next tournament because we just won the last tournament,'" he said. "We just take it one game at a time and see how it goes. My dream is to be successful but we have to be openminded."

Get_Right said the upcoming CS:GO update, which is bringing changes to player movement, hit boxes and sounds, is keeping the pro scene on its toes and makes team standings in the near future a bit more up-in-the-air.

Not everyone sees NiP's static roster as a positive, and fans point fingers at the consistent core when the team isn't on top.

"People are always blaming us for sticking to our four-man core but just look at those Polish guys," Get_Right said, referring to the even older squad that makes up Virtus.pro. "They've also been playing together for a very long time, but they just won DreamHack Bucharest, they just won ELeague. They're not terrible.

"There is something about the teams sticking to their core players, proving that they can still perform to the highest level of competition in Counter-Strike history."

When exactly Ninjas in Pyjamas will get its fifth player Pyth back is still unclear, though. As much as the team wants to give updates on Pyth and his injury, they don't know exactly what's going on.

"Doctors have been giving him different answers at every appointment, so we can't really specifically say 'This is the problem,' 'This is how long he's going to have to wait,' or 'This is how we fix it,'" Get_Right said.

The last update from Pyth, a few days ago, was that recovery will take time and surgery may be required.

"When we know for sure, we're going to announce it," he said.
