LONDON -- It's time to put down your weapons and calmly welcome our duck new overlords.

On Saturday, motorists driving through the wind-swept roads of Glasgow, Scotland, were visited by a rather strange sight -- a monstrous inflatable duck the size of a small building casually trundling its way along a hectic four-lane road.

But fear not.

A bit of digging has revealed that the duck is actually the mascot of card dealership Peter Vardy -- and that rather than an attempt at world domination, the duck was likely just taking advantage of windy conditions to make its bid for freedom.

Mark Duncan shared footage on Facebook of what will now forever be known as The Great Inflatable Duck Escape of '16.

There's no word yet on the final fate of the duck, but Mashable has reached out to Peter Vardy to try and get to the bottom of the matter. We will update this article if we receive a response.

UPDATE: Sept. 26, 2016, 4:14 p.m. BST Mashable spoke to a Peter Vardy employee, who confirmed that the duck was retrieved after 10 minutes on the loose and returned to the dealership.

"The duck is now safe and well," they said. "A little bit bashed and bruised, but still in one piece."
