LONDON -- Good Morning Britain, one of the cosy TV shows that greet TV viewers across the country as the day gets going, was hit by drama Friday morning as a fire broke out at broadcaster ITV's central London studio buildings.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters rushed to the blaze and 50 people were evacuated while it was extinguished. No one was injured, according to a statement from London Fire Brigade.

"The Brigade was called at 06:57 and the fire was under control by 08:43," they said. "Fire crews from Lambeth, Dowgate and Soho fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation."

An episode of Dinner Date was aired instead of Good Morning Britain while they tackled the blaze.

Presenter Ben Shephard, who was among those sent out into the street, filmed the smoke issuing from the building.

The event brought the Twitter wits out in force.

One TV commentator drily suggested that the recent hiring of irritating daytime TV stalwart and wannabe Jerry Springer Jeremy Kyle might have something to do with it.
