Whoops.

Google is expected to bring its voice assistant directly to headphones — and the first pair of cans with the AI helper might have accidentally hit store shelves before an official announcement could even be made.

Multiple pairs of Bose QuietComfort 35 II wireless headphones have been spotted at Best Buy stores, according to 9to5Google. The headphones aren't even listed on Bose's website yet and the story didn't allow anyone to buy the headphones, so the fact that these headphones were on store shelves clearly wasn't supposed to happen.

The biggest news here is that the packaging claims the headphones will have a new Google Assistant capability, and a picture of the headphones on the box's rear shows off a new button on one of the earcups that could be used to control the AI.

The appearance of the QC 35 II in the wild follows reports that the latest Google app beta contained references to something called "Bisto," which was determined to be a pair of headphones that run Assistant. Bose fans also speculated about the new button last month after the company inadvertently included a pic of the new headphones in a marketing email.

YouTuber Jeremy Judkins was the first to spot the headphones at a Best Buy store, listed for $350.

9to5Google's Ben Schoon followed up on the initial report and found a box of the headphones hiding out on the shelves at his local Best Buy as well.

The QC 35 II made their way to the stores' shelves, but they couldn't be sold. Both Judkins and Schoon said that Best Buy wouldn't allow them to actually purchase the new rigs, and Schoon reported that he was told they won't be available until Sept. 22.

The timing here is curious. Google announced it will hold an event on Oct. 4 where the Pixel 2 — and its amped-up Assistant connectivity — is expected to be unveiled. Dropping some new Assistant integration ahead of the big Pixel debut.

We reached out to Bose and Best Buy for some more info about the early appearance on store shelves, and we'll update the post upon receiving a response. If you're impatient, though, maybe you should just take a trip to the nearest Best Buy — you might just find some QC 35 II boxes on the shelves.
