Google has announced that it will make calls to France free in the wake of the Nice attack.

Users will be able to dial into France without charge via Hangouts, Google Voice and Project Fi from anywhere in the world these services are supported, as announced by the company on Thursday evening.

Google posted a statement online that said: "To all those affected by the attack in Nice, you’re in our thoughts."

In addition to the free calls, the company also published a Google Now card which will provide critical information to those in the Nice area. It will be updated with information from French authorities once they come to hand.

Dozens are dead after a truck plowed into a crowd during Bastille Day celebrations in Nice, with many more people injured.

"France is deeply afflicted by this new tragedy, France is horrified by what has just occurred," French President Francois Hollande said in a press conference on Thursday.

"This monstrous act of using a truck to deliberately kill dozens of people who were simply celebrating the 14th of July. France is afflicted but France is strong, and France will always be stronger than the fanatics that want to strike France today."
