Chrome reaches 1 billion monthly mobile users with 50th release

Google Chrome just pushed out its 50th release, coming almost eight years after it originally launched. With it, Google released a bunch of statistics about Chrome on its blog.

According to Google, Chrome is used by 1 billion mobile users per month, and according to Stat Counter it has the highest use among mobile users, accounting for over 33% of mobile traffic. Throw in desktop and tablet users and Chrome powers a nearly 50% share of traffic.

Around 771 billion web pages are loaded in Chrome each month

Google also gave us a look at how often Chrome's features are used each month. Around 771 billion web pages are loaded, 3.6 billion pages are automatically translated, more than 500 billion characters are filled in thanks to autofill, and users are protected from dangerous website or malicious content 145 million times.

As a part of Google's effort to improve the security of Chrome and reduce the number of bugs in the browser, the company offers rewards to people who find these flaws. To date, Google has given out more than $2.5 million in rewards to people who have found bugs and security flaws in Chrome. As for Chrome's autofill feature that allows users to save usernames, passwords, addresses and more, Google has stored more than 9.1 billion different forms and passwords. 

Chrome, which runs off the open-source project Chromium, is constantly being updated and changed. Over Chrome's 50 iterations, developers have added faster page-loading algorithms, battery- and memory-saving methods, and decreases in data usage.
