Google's Chromecast — the updated version of which launched in October 2015 — is a great, cheap way to stream content to your TV, with one major drawback: It doesn't support 4K videos.

This is now remedied with the Google Chromecast Ultra, a straightforward update to the Chromecast which retains all the old features and adds 4K support.

Google says Chromecast Ultra also has better performance and reliability than the regular Chromecast. It's 1.8x faster, and comes with Ethernet support.

The Chromecast Ultra is also visually similar as the Chromecast — a small, circular HD dongle that plugs directly into your TV.

But there's a big difference: While Chromecast costs $35, the Chromecast Ultra will set you back $69.

If you're keeping count, Apple TV does not support 4K (and costs quite a bit more); and neither do Amazon's Fire TV Stick or Roku Stick. Xiaomi's recently launched Mi Box, however, does 4K for $69.

While $69 is not a huge price to pay for a streaming media stick, the price difference between the Ultra and the regular Chromecast is significant. If you need a reason to justify paying an additional $35, perhaps Google's plans to launch 4K content on Google Play Movies & TV in November will do the trick.

Chromecast will become available in the U.S. in November.
