Google Maps compiled 31 haunted sites to scare the living hell out of you

Pack your bags and your ghost repellent.

This Halloween can be the perfect opportunity to travel to the scariest places in America. Or avoid them at all cost. Your choice.

Google Maps listed the 31 most haunted places in the United States and the places range from cemeteries to houses.

Here are few most notable of places with a long history of ghosts, sounds, and unexplainable experiences:

The Villisca Ax Murder House

Any house labeled the "murder house" has to 100 percent be haunted. The Villisca Ax Murder House got its name from the murder of a family and two overnight guests. The murderer was never identified and apparently you can hear the whispers of the children who were killed. Um, no thanks.

Eastern State Penitentiary

The Eastern State Penitentiary became the first in the United States to implement solitary confinement. It once held notorious criminals like Al Capone, so this place was no joke. It is said the ghosts of inmates roam the prison and believe to have finally taken control. Let's pass on this one.

Stanley Hotel

There's nothing more inviting than staying at a haunted hotel. The Stanley Hotel, which inspired the Stephen King novel The Shining, may be scarier than the actual movie. During tours, people have seen past guests and employees throughout the hotel. You can actually still book a room if you aren't too scared of the noises and unexpected appearances.

Salem

While Salem, Massachusetts is known for the Salem Witch Trials and pop culture references, the town has a lot more to offer and a lot more places to scare you with. There's an Old Salem Jail, the House of Seven Gables, and even a Salem State University where many have claimed experiences of paranormal activities. They don't call this haunted town the most visited for nothing.

The White House

It's no surprise that The White House is one of the most scary places right now. But it was haunted way before the new administration moved in. According to the History channel, many presidents, staff members, and visitors reported ghostly encounters.
