Samsung is about to get a major new competitor in the foldable space, it seems.

New reporting from CNBC based on internal Google documents indicates that the long-rumored Google Pixel Fold will launch this June. Per CNBC, the device will make its debut at Google I/O in May and could cost as much as $1,700, putting it roughly on par with the $1,800 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.

This report backs up previous rumors suggesting that we'd get the Pixel Fold this summer. According to the documents CNBC saw, the device has an outside screen measuring in at 5.8-inches and an inner, roughly tablet-shaped 7.6-inch display that you'll see once you unfold the phone. Google's purported outer display is smaller than Samsung's 6.2-inch equivalent on the Z Fold 4, but the 7.6-inch figure on the inside is exactly the same.

The phone will also reportedly be powered by the second-gen Google Tensor chip. That's what currently powers the Pixel 7 line, in case you were curious. We'll probably have to wait until later this year when Google presumably releases the Pixel 8 to see an update to the Tensor chipset.

Regardless of the specifics, Google I/O is less than a month away. Foldable fans who dig Google's approach to Android smartphones might want to start saving money now.
