Monday's leak indicating that Google would release a Daydream virtual reality headset turned out to be accurate.

At the company's Made By Google event on Tuesday, Google took the wraps off its new VR headset, the Daydream View, which is designed to work with its new Pixel line of smartphones.

The device comes in threes colors, Snow, Slate and Crimson, and the entire thing is wrapped in soft fabric, designed to make wearing the device more comfortable.

With an overall look similar to the reference design released back in May at Google I/O, the headset comes with its own controller, which is meant to the give you control of interfaces and objects in your Daydream VR environment.

That controller gets its own little pouch for safekeeping when not in use, which is hidden in the visor of the headset itself.

The other leak that turned out to be on the mark is the price of the device -- just $79. At that price, this makes Google's VR headset the cheapest high profile option after Samsung's Gear VR device.

However, the major difference here is that Google's historical strength is software, which in the world of VR may give the Mountain View-based company a distinct advantage over Samsung, at least in the short term.

The headset and controller go on sale in November.
