Google has announced that it's adding a new feature to Google Wifi that will allow you to measure how well each device on your network is performing.

In the next few weeks, you'll be able to use the Google Wifi app to check the connection of any device that's plugged into your network, be it your Amazon Echo, smart TV, or other IoT device.

Google's Wifi network already allows you to measure the speed and quality of your internet connection. The new feature, however, will essentially allow you to run a speed test on each individual smart device on your network.

Once you know which devices aren't getting great connection, you can move them closer to your router for better speed, or move your router closer to them.

While this may seem like an incremental update, it's actually going to become more important as smart home technologies become more extensive, and more widespread. Google claims that there are an average of 18 devices on each Google Wifi network -- and it's certainly hard to keep track, and constant tabs, on that many devices.

This feature will help you lay out your smart home in a way that guarantees good connectivity for each device. It also means you can immediately fix connectivity problems, and won't have to learn the hard way that your devices need to move.
