Consumer Reports' annual Top 10 car and truck picks came out Thursday and many electric and hybrid cars made the coveted list with a special new label.

The Toyota Prius, Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Toyota Camry (and hybrid version), and Tesla Model 3 were all chosen not only for being safe, reliable, and satisfying to own, but also for being a "Green Choice."

Green Choice vehicles will now be designated across Consumer Reports content with a green leaf icon. These are cars that CR has determined emit the lowest amount of greenhouse gases and other emissions. Looking at fuel efficiency, the Prius comes in at top with 52 miles per gallon. The Toyota Corolla Hybrid comes a close second with 48 mpg.

The four cars on the top 10 list are the first to receive this new designation. They're all either Toyota or Tesla models. Tesla only makes electric vehicles, while Toyota is the pioneer in the hybrid space with the Prius. The first hybrid Prius came out in 2001. This year marks the 18th time the Prius has made CR's top car list.

Other vehicles rounded out the top 10 list, but didn't earn the Green Choice leaf, including the Mazda CX-30, Subaru Forester and Outback, Kia Telluride, Honda Ridgeline, and Lexus RX.

UPDATE: Feb. 18, 2021, 10:09 a.m. PST Consumer Reports shared its full list of Green Choice vehicles, which includes 48 different cars. Most are all-electric or hybrid, like the Chevy Bolt EV and Subaru Crosstrek hybrid version.
