LONDON -- The cast of sitcom Green Wing, which ran on Channel 4 from 2004 to 2007, has reunited to support the junior doctors who are staging a 48-hour strike in England.

Five actors from the offbeat medical comedy gathered at Northwick Park Hospital in north London on Wednesday, where the show was filmed.

Stephen Mangan, who played Guy Secretan in the show, tipped off Twitter followers about the initiative on Tuesday.

Green Wing was a surreal comedy revolving around a cast of bizarre hospital staff which became a cult classic.

Thousands of junior doctors in England have been back on the picket line protesting terms of a new contract with the government.

In the fourth strike since the dispute over weekend pay and Saturday work rules started, doctors say they will provide only emergency care for 48 hours.

A strike called for later in April would also include emergency care. That would mark the first total shutdown by junior doctors since the NHS was founded in 1948.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
