Not your typical Grindr conversation.

Predictably, people turn to dating apps to try and find someone that's out of their circle.

Without the mutual friends, it means you'd have to go through the usual chatter about how your day is going, what you do for a living, and also where you're from.

For Alston Slatton, a 23-year-old actor/writer who lives in New York City, he probably wasn't expecting to meet someone from his home state of Arkansas on Grindr. Let alone someone from the same city as him, Jonesboro.

"I bet we literally know all the mutual gays," Slatton joked, as per the now-viral conversation he posted on Twitter on Monday.

Slatton told Mashable via Twitter message that he thought he was either being "cat-fished" or it was a "really crazy coincidence."

"Then when he recognized my name from my Instagram handle, I was thinking, 'Oh wow, do I have that bad of a rap sheet back in Jonesboro—like, did I (un)knowingly steal his husband or something?'" he said.

So, meeting someone from the same, far-flung place as you in somewhere like New York City is impressive enough.

Then you find out they went to a concert with your mother. A Lady Gaga concert, of all possible outcomes.

It turns out Slatton's mother had some extra tickets to the Gaga concert in St. Louis.

"My mom had told me a while back that she went with some friends of friends from hometown—Jonesboro—because she ended up with extra tickets," he said.

"But I really only knew one of those guys, and knew absolutely nothing else about the others, so finding out that one of those boys lived a few blocks away (2686 feet to be exact) from my apartment in NYC was stunning—definitely wasn’t your typical 'woof, you host?' kind of Grindr interaction."

Slatton said his mother is a massive Gaga fan, customizing her license plate, dressed up as a "Perfect Illusion" styled Gaga for Halloween, and even sent her son unpublished demos that he hadn't discovered.

"It's really sweet because she didn’t get into her until after I left home for college. She missed me a lot, so she started listening to her music because she knew Gaga is my favorite artist. It made her feel closer to me," he said.

The South isn't always the easiest place for someone to come out, let alone identify as LGBTQ -- something which Slatton has written about before. When it came to his situation, Slatton said his mother's Gaga fandom helped.

"I’m very fortunate to have an incredibly loving and supportive ally of a mother, and I know that my mom being exposed to Gaga's messages of love, inclusion, and diversity played a huge role in that. So yeah -- that’s what kind of fan she is," he explained.

In case you're wondering, yes, Slatton is going on a date with Grindr guy. His mom already likes him, after all. And of course, they're both open to hearing from Lady Gaga.

It's certainly a small world after all.
