This grocery store stunt shows what xenophobia looks like
Walking into a grocery store and finding pretty much nothing on the shelves is pretty shocking. But finding out the empty shelves represent our fear of other cultures and immigrants makes it even more jarring.
That's what happened at a German grocery store last week when the store cleared the shelves of anything not made in Germany. The Hamburg branch of the grocer Edeka made a point about racism and xenophobia when it only offered German-based food products.
The results were sparse, sad shelves, and very limited dinner options. The photos and videos really emphasized how ridiculous racism looks, especially through a food lens.

The stunt played out on social media where it sparked discussion about accepting others and dramatically showed how reliant we are on "outsiders" without even thinking about it.
Your shopping list just got woke.
