Guangzhou hit by massive floods, but life still goes on

There have been at least nine deaths and three people reported missing since the storms started.

Despite days of continuous heavy rainfall and violent thunderstorms, which left roads and subway stations in Guangzhou, China, knee-deep in water, life still goes on for the locals.

Pictures of the flood showed traffic being brought to a standstill, but people were still making their way to work by hook or by crook.

Local residents have blamed the city's bad drainage system for the massive flooding. A cleanup operation is currently underway to drain flooded areas.

Land transportation is not the only mode of transport affected. China Daily reported that several flights in and out of the capital city of Guangdong have been cancelled or delayed.

According to the Associated Press, the unrelenting rain started last week in several provinces in south China and continued through till Monday. There have been at least nine deaths and three people reported missing since.
