It seems the potential of Hamilton knows no bounds.

On Thursday, Lin-Manuel Miranda announced "The Hamildrops," a new project where Miranda will release new Hamilton content every month until Dec. 2018. and now we have the first Hamildrop release.

The Decemberists kicked off the project by releasing a recording of "Ben Franklin's Song," which creator Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote but didn't end up including in his beloved musical.

In a post on their website, the Portland indie rock band said Miranda reached out to frontman Colin Meloy to request his help and together they turned the lyrics into a kick-ass, educational jam.

According to the band, Miranda had wanted to include Benjamin Franklin in the show but it didn't work out in the end. However, the Hamilton creator always imagined Franklin would be singing the song like The Decemberists.

"We hope you like it. It was a lot of fun to write and record," the band wrote. "If you’re a HAMILTON fan, we hope it will add a new dimension to the world of the show for you — but you can also just enjoy it as a history lesson. Franklin invented bifocals, you know. And the glass harmonica. WHAT A F***ING GUY."

You can listen to the song below, and there's also an explicit version if you really want to get fired up about history.

We can hardly wait for what's next. Will Beyoncé be involved? Ben Platt, perhaps? The possibilities are endless.
