Sometimes life can be a real kick in the guts, or as you're about to witness, a hammer throw to the groin.

New Zealander and Olympic shot putter Valerie Adams recently reminded us on Instagram that track and field events can be dangerous, particularly when you don't time your hammer throw correctly.

Hammer throw is an Olympic sport where the objective is to throw a big heavy thing as far as your intimidatingly muscular arms will allow. Simple enough, right? Apparently not. Adams published this video as a useful reminder of what can happen if you miscalculate your release time when throwing a giant metal ball on a rope.

It is unclear whether the ball busting incident was witnessed by Adams first hand, but one can only hope the official on the receiving end doesn't have any plans to walk or bend over in the foreseeable future.
