July 28 marks the 10,000th day since the birth of the world wide web. Happy birthday! You don’t look a day over 9,999.

It all started back on March 12, 1989, when Tim Berners-Lee submitted a proposal for an information system at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). That information system is now known as the world wide web, and we are its humble servants.

Seeing as it’s been officially 10,000 days since the web sprang to life and became our sentient overlord (give it time), we better join in the celebrations. And what better way to mark the occasion than with a collection of things to remind our online selves how young we really are. Things that feel like they were created yesterday, but at the same time, seem like a world (wide web) away – as if they were spat out of the web's hive mind in a fever dream. Prepare yourselves.

But then Arthur popped up and became the first internet cynic, busting the floodgates wide open for generations of truthers to come.

But not everyone could grasp the whole concept.

Thankfully, we've come a long way.

Send the web your best birthday regards on Twitter, with the hashtag #10KDays. Here's to another 10,000 days of cat massages, salad fingers, new online-based art genres and kids biting other kid's fingers.
