This YouTube artist paints scenes straight out of your favorite video games

It's like a new and nerdier version of Bob Ross.

This post is part of Hard Refresh, a soothing weekly column where we try to cleanse your brain of whatever terrible thing you just witnessed on Twitter.

For those of us who love a relaxing episode of the Joy of Painting, let me introduce you to the Bob Ross of the video game world.

MalMakes is a YouTube channel dedicated to recreating gorgeous scenes from video games on canvas. Mallory Georg, the artist behind the account, is a high school art teacher with an affinity for gaming.

In her videos, Georg condenses the process down into a super quick time-lapse, showing the painting's progress from start to finish. In one episode, she takes on the challenge of painting the iconic Hyrule Castle stage from Super Smash Bros.

While this clip is a quick 2-minute time-lapse, there's also a longer version in which Georg explains each step of building a finished piece. If you're looking for an authentic Bob Ross-esque experience, the longer videos are worth a watch.

While Georg frequently paints scenes from Nintendo games, she's also tackled scenery from games like Halo and Limbo.

One of Georg's notable works is her painting of a post-apocalyptic scene from Fallout 4. While she's explored spooky imagery in other paintings, this one in particular has a ton of details that make it stand out from the rest.

In this painting, Georg spent a solid amount of time painting every single tree and structure—all covered in a dense fog. By the time she's finished, the entire location looks like it came straight from the video game itself. Although the setting is quite dark, it still retains the whimsical art style that Georg is well known for.

After a solid binge of these videos, you'll feel relaxed and ready to play multiple hours of Halo.
