Pranks can be fun, but they can also cause a world of hurt.

For those extremely prone to feeling guilty, April Fools' Day can be a difficult holiday. Sure, giving your brother a caramel onion instead of a caramel apple was funny, but didn't it also hurt his feelings?

It's not fun to hurt people's feelings.

That's why it helps to have a few harmless pranks in your back pocket -- so harmless, in fact, that your loved ones might not notice them at all.

May your conscience have a clear April Fools' Day.

1. If you normally wave to your favorite co-worker in the morning, fake her out with a high-five instead.

If you are worried about hand sweat, you can also try a more pronounced wave. Denise will not know what hit her.

2. Type like Zayn Malik for a day.

Light confusion. Nothing more.

3. Move your roommate's toothpaste to another location.

If you want, you can even move it back before they get home.

4. When someone asks what day it is, tell them the wrong day. Then immediately tell them you are joking.

This way, you won't interfere with anyone's schedule.

5. Tell your family to "come look at the deer in the backyard."

If there is no deer, no worries -- no one will be devastated. If there is a deer there, congrats! Your family will treasure this memory for years to come.

6. Pay for someone else's coffee as a nice surprise.

But don't, like, be weird about it.

7. Wear the same hat as an unsuspecting friend or co-worker.

Do not explain. Unless they ask, then be honest.

8. Secretly put your roommate's socks into non-matching pairs. Then, just as they're about to get upset about it, reveal a brand-new pile of socks you bought for them.

Everyone loves a prank with a happy ending.

9. Say "perfect" a lot, but leave the "t" off.

This will not be a memorable part of anyone's day.

10. Tell everyone to have a happy April Fools' Day.

The best prank is spreading joy. Right? That's a prank, right? Hello?
