With seven books of written material and just under 20 hours of film, the Harry Potter franchise is chock-full of information.

To put it simply, there's no way the filmmakers could have possibly included everything from the books in the movies. But still, some of the differences between the two make us scratch our heads.

In the first installment of our series "Book to Screen," we take a look at the major changes the films made when telling Harry Potter's story. Some good, some bad, some just plain strange, but all of them very real and very serious.
