This definitely falls on the horrifying end of the snafu-spectrum.

Parents in the audiences of a cinema in Perth were shocked when, ahead of a screening of Peter Rabbit, the cinema played the trailer for the upcoming horror film Hereditary.

A woman named Jane told the Sydney Morning Herald that there were "at least 40 children" in the cinema at the time. She said once everyone realised what was going on, "parents were yelling at the projectionist to stop, covering their kids' eyes and ears."

Many online responded to the mildly traumatic episode. Some found pity in their hearts. Others, mirth.

The studio behind the horror-flick even weighed in.

Ouch.
